The history of olive oil is the leading topic at Bagaladi’s Porta del Parco. The Gateway to the Park building is the ancient Jacopino water-driven oil mill refurbished, which also contains the Olive-Oil Museum.

Inside the museum, some old, unusual instruments, used in oil-mills until the early twentieth century, are on show, as well as a Grimaldi mill driven by a working water-powered wheel. A dedicated section tells visitors how olives were cultivated and oil produced using photographs and a video.

This old oil-mill, which has become the Parco dell’Aspromonte’s reception centre, informs visitors about a tradition which is not only the memory but also the way of life of this land. The centre also provides a Punto Ristoro [Refreshment Point] where it is possible to taste some of the Aspromonte area’s typical wines and food products.
