MADONNA DEL CARMINE [OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL]

The Church of the Madonna del Carmine in Palizzi was built in 1573.

To the name of the church are often added the Latin words “extra moenia” [outside the walls], due to the fact that this church was built in the sixteenth century after the walls of the town had been completed, so that the church stood, effectively, outside the town walls.

The façade of the church is plain, though it is enhanced by an elegant marble portal.
